Work the soil, rake smooth,
thirty holes, diamond pattern -
         garlic snuggled in.

Wind, rain, and big waves
through morning and afternoon -
        now(1) golden sunlight!

(1) 6pm! And some blue sky.

 Potato, carrot,

 squash (butternut), beet (golden) -

       sheet-pan roast dinner! 

 

Light rain, early sunset, nice autumn dinner! 

A tall man lead by

a small dog. We talk weather.

       A walk to the bank. 

Red leaves on maple,

yellow leaves on birch, aspen -

        a duck on the pond.       

Hot dogs and baked beans,

cole slaw and Sprechers Root Beer -
        and the Packers won!

Long-suffering God,
we are a rebellious species,

from Aaron and the Israelites and their golden calf

right through

to the charges and counter-charges 

suits and counter-suits we hear of each new day.

But this is a beautiful morning
and while I eat at the table you have prepared for me today
I will think on
 things that are true, ____________
 things that are honorable, _______
 things that are just, __________
 things that are pure, ___________
 things that are lovely, __________
 things that are gracious, _________
 things that are excellent, __________
 things that are worthy of praise. _________
I rejoice in you and your steadfast love
today and tomorrow and every day from now on.
